Greetings to our Current and Prospective Members!!

Welcome to the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR) Atlanta Chapter’s website! It is my great honor and pleasure to serve as president and to share information about our great chapter.

NAAAHR is a dynamic and growing organization which exists to provide a forum where African American Human Resource professionals can gain information and experience, share best practices, and network.

The State of the Talent Acquisition Function

Talent Acquisition professionals face a myriad of choices in allocating budgets and priorities each year; from developing new capabilities, to building a meaningful social media presence, to improving onboarding practices, and more. Likewise, recruiting trends change frequently.

In this presentation, Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Talent Acquisition at Assurant, Inc., will focus on budget and program priorities of Talent Acquisition functions across the globe from the perspective of industry best practices and HR thought leaders. Areas covered will include budget allocations, hiring levels, sourcing strategies, and more. The goal is to provide key insights to position you to better understand the key 2014 strategic priorities and challenges for today's Talent Acquisition's professional.

Specifically, attendees will learn:

  • Where HR executives are allocating their functional investments for 2014

Deborah Wilson currently serves as the Vice President of Talent Acquisition(TA) for Assurant since 2011. In her role, she leads the TA function for the Fortune 500 Company which serves as a premier provider of specialized insurance products and related services in North American and select worldwide markets. As the VP of TA, she and her team leads the talent acquisition strategy and execution of all aspects of talent acquisition activities including vendor management, contingent and permanent hires to proactively meet the dynamic demands of the business.

Deborah's specialties include talent acquisition and management, executive coaching, career counseling, strategic planning, change management, leadership development, organizational development and team building.

Previously, Deborah served as a Vice President and Director of Human Resources for Cox Communications. She was responsible for the development and execution of Cox's human resources strategies and culture change initiatives, including leadership development, talent and performance management, organizational development, employee relations, diversity, recruitment and retention, and compensation.

Deborah is a graduate of Hampton University where she earned a B.S. in Finance and earned a M.B.A. at the Darden Graduate School of Business - University of Virginia, where she was a PepsiCo fellow.

She also served as a volunteer for Delta Academy and Leadership Delta, the Hampton University Alumni and Darden Graduate School of Business Alumni Association and numerous other organizations. Currently, Deborah serves as a Board Member of Positive Impact in Atlanta, GA whose mission is to eliminate the risk of HIV transmission and to empower those affected by HIV.

She is an active member of the Society of Human Resources Management, Human Resource Management Association of Atlanta, Georgia State University HR Executive Roundtable, ASTD, Human Resource Leadership Forum, Women in Cable Television, and Delta Sigma Theta - Public Service Sorority. She was also appointed by the Governor of Rhode Island to serve on the Workforce Development Board.

NAAAHR receives proclomation from City of Atlanta in recognition of 20 Years of service to the HR community. Members generously donate foods and toys to the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Toys for Tots. 

Peter Thomas, owner of barONE and husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey was on hand to ensure that NAAAHR receives the VIP treatment!!
